Terms and ConditionsConditionsThe post is subject to the National Joint Council for Local Government Services, as modified by collective agreement and the rules of the Council. Salary The starting salary, paid monthly by bank credit, will be as advertised in accordance with qualifications and previous experience and annual increments are awarded for satisfactory performance. Probationary Period The successful candidate will be required to serve a probationary period of 26 weeks. During this period they will be expected to establish their suitability for the post. Qualifications Candidates will be requested to provide acceptable evidence of their qualifications. Medical Clearance Any appointment will be subject to medical clearance. Following interview, the successful applicant will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire. In some circumstances the candidate may then be required to undergo a medical examination. Leave The annual leave entitlement is 20 days plus two extra statutory days and normal bank holidays. A further five days are given after five years' continuous local government service. This will be pro rata for part time staff. The annual leave entitlement of employees leaving or joining the Council will be proportionate to their completed service during the leave year. For part-time staff recognised Bank/Public Holidays for each given year will be calculated pro rata alongside annual leave. Sick Pay Scheme The NJC conditions of service includes a sickness payment scheme which is applicable according to length of service. Car Allowance The Council operates a local car allowance scheme based on the 1000 - 1199cc band of the national casual user car allowance scheme, which currently pays 46.9 pence for each mile travelled on Council business up to 8,500 miles per annum. Over 8,500 miles per annum the rate will be 13.6 pence. Car Parking Free car parking is currently available. Pension Scheme The position offers membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, a final salary scheme. You will automatically become a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme upon taking up your appointment unless you choose to opt out. Your contribution towards the scheme will be in accordance with the following table:
Politically Restricted Posts The Local Government and Housing Act 1989 prevents the holders of posts salaried at spinal column point 40 or above from taking part in certain political activities. The post holder is not able to:
Professional Subscription The Council will pay one annual subscription to an appropriate professional body. Office Hours The normal working week is 37 hours. Normal office hours are 8.45 a.m. to 5.15 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 8.45 a.m. to 4.45 p.m. Friday. The Authority operates a flexitime scheme. National Fraud Initiative The Council is under a duty to protect the public funds that it administers and to this end may use the information you have provided for the prevention and detection of fraud. The Council may also share this information with other bodies administering public funds solely for these purposes. |
